The experience

Sulmona, folklore and tradition

Sulmona, an ancient Peligna center, is the birthplace of Ovid, a celebrated Latin poet. Refined and rich in history, the town also boasts a great gastronomic culture thanks to exceptional products such as solina wheat, red garlic, extra virgin olive oil of Rustica and Gentile varieties, confetti and traditional nougats. Don’t miss the religious (“the Madonna running in the square,” at Easter) and historical (the Joust of Chivalry, in late July) reenactments.

Abruzzo home of the sugared almond: visit to the Pelino sugared almond museum

The Pelino Confetti Factory, founded in 1783, has always been the symbol of the Great Sulmonese Confetti Tradition. The company has been handed down from father to son until the current Pelino generation, the seventh. The confetto is a very ancient sweet, already present on the tables and in the festivals of the Greeks and Romans. The Pelino Confetti Factory houses the Museum of Confectionery Art and Technology, documenting the ancient confectionery process that has made Sulmona famous throughout the world.
