Rocca Santa Maria, a small town in the province of Teramo, is getting ready to host “Li Carriàggë: il corredo della sposa, la festa, gli stornelli”(“Li Carriàggë: the bride’s trousseau, the party, the ditties”): an evocative event that will make you relive the atmosphere of the traditional Italian wedding in Abruzzo.
The event, organized by the local Tourist Board, is part of the “Festival Culturale dei Borghi Rurali della Laga 2024” (“2024 Cultural Festival of Laga Villages”), and it will take place in Fioli, a hamlet of Rocca Santa Maria, on Saturday, July 13, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Li Carriàggë, meaning “the chariots,” re-enacts the evocative ritual of carrying the wedding trousseau from the bride’s home to the groom’s. A symbolic procession will take you back in time, amid period costumes, traditional songs and dances, for an authentic and engaging experience.
The program of the event, among typical Abruzzese delicacies and folk music
The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a gathering and guided tour of the village of Fioli. A chance to discover the beauty of this place rich in history.
At 11:00 a.m. it will be time to relive the evocative ritual of Li Carriàggë. At midday, instead, the main protagonists will be the traditional dishes of Abruzzo, with the tasting of typical wedding lunch delicacies: food prepared with genuine ingredients and following the recipes handed down from generation to generation, which will let you discover the local culinary soul in a riot of authentic flavors.
The afternoon will be filled with music and folklore, with serenades and ditties. Folk songs that will allow you to immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere of ancient wedding ceremonies, for a full dive into the regional musical traditions.
