In Teramo the festival of folk music and folklore of Abruzzo
The Saltarello Festival is a tourist-cultural project aimed at the recovery, revaluation and popularization of folk forms related to the Abruzzo region and Central Italy. The Saltarello is important in the evolution of Abruzzo folk music and also represents a large family of traditional dances from other regions (Lazio, Marche, Umbria, Molise).
The Festival was born and nourished from the traditional and popular foundations of this musical phenomenon and seeks to bring it into the contemporary, declining it in the current context, making it a tool for comparison and knowledge with the new generations. The aims of the Festival are to provide support for the cultural and tourist revitalization of the area, enhance traditional music and contemporary contaminations, promote local products and spread the heritage of folk music and dance. Contained within the festival are multiple initiatives and activities such as: stages of dance and typical saltarello instruments, exhibitions, workshops, lectures, conferences, music competitions for folk groups and solo instruments.
