In Raiano, a special event to tell the story of Italian migrants

The event “RAIANO: RITRATTO DI FAMIGLIA” stems from the idea that memory is one of the main elements that help the formation of civic consciousness: without it, a society would lack foundations and it would be without identity. The event aims to rebuild a broken thread in the community of Raiano, small town in the province of L’Aquila, as a result of the migration phenomenon, in order to reconnect relationships and meanings of social value. In order to tell the story of the community’s traditions and history, the “LUOGHI E MIGRANTI” festival will be held on Aug. 16-17-18, with three days of engaging activities: visitors, and communities of Raianese people living abroad, will be invited to participate in experiential workshops and inclusive activities, such as show cooking, hikes and guided tours of local businesses, with tasting sessions of typical products.

Inside the historic center, the “Roots Route” can be visited, with panels telling the story of Italian migrants and representing the identity card of a community: a memory trail for all Raianese people abroad, and their descendants, who will come to visit their country of origin. The visit will be accompanied by a storytelling session about Raiano’s history and traditions.

Moreover, during the three-day festival, in addition to food stands and moments of entertainment, the presentation of a publication-which will have the value of a “freeze frame” on personal stories within the community-and the projection of a video, which will report the iconographic sources found during the survey, with audio and musical commentary, is planned.
