The “My Father’s God” literary festival is an international cultural event dedicated to the Italian-American writer John Fante that is held every summer in Torricella Peligna, Abruzzo, the home town of his father Nick and the literary subject of many of his novels and short stories. Created in 2006 to pay tribute to the well-known writer, the festival presents itself as a wide-ranging cultural proposal, which is structured around the figure of John Fante and then develops into parallel sections dedicated to other authors and themes from a transnational and intercultural perspective. In addition to deepening and popularizing Fante’s work and biography, “My Father’s God” also wants to be the place to reflect on contaminations and the meeting of different worlds, the venue where to enhance the cultural heritage of Italians around the world. The festival also devotes ample space to Italian literary production and internationally established Abruzzese talents. Also distinguishing the event is the diversity of programmatic offerings and its interdisciplinary character. The festival includes meetings with authors, book presentations, readings, theatrical and musical performances, seminars and round tables, to which an international literary prize (the John Fante Prize) has been added since 2008. ‘My Father’s God’ is meant to be under the banner of quality cultural entertainment, set in a convivial environment, taking place in tune with its territory, that of Sangro-Aventino, which the festival supports and promotes.
