Great Abruzzo folk music to dance to and listen to at ReLive Festival

The proposed event is an evening concert by the “Orchestra Popolare del Saltarello” (“Saltarello Popular Orchestra”), which offers a repertoire of Abruzzo folk music songs ranging from the most representative songs of our tradition to Saltarelle, Spallate and Ballarelle.

The history of Saltarello, a traditional dance deeply rooted not only in the memory of our fellow citizens, but also of the many descendants from Frisa and Abruzzo around the world, is one of the cornerstones of the folklore and tradition of our territory. The Orchestra, made up of 10 extraordinary musicians (accordion, organ, vocal section, an organ and accordion section, guitars, mandolin, bagpipes, flutes, tambourines, bass and drums) interprets traditional repertoire from Abruzzo with originality and freshness. In addition to the musicians, there will also be an engaging dance troupe for an evening that will be able to retrace a journey along the ancient Transhumance routes interweaving past and present, both of the locals, who love to retrace the stages of Abruzzo’s folk tradition, and of the Roots Travelers, who will have the opportunity to live an immersive experience.

To make the experience immersive and active, the concert will be preceded in the afternoon by a folk dance workshop for adults and children by Associazione Interamnia World Music of Teramo. The Association’s preparation and rich cultural background, steeped in choreographic and musical experience, will enable all locals and Roots Travelers to learn the main steps of this dance and embark on an authentic experience of discovering the folk traditions of Abruzzo.

The activities are located within the “ReLive Abruzzo Festival”, a territorial development festival of the Province of Chieti, born in 2021 and now in its fourth edition, sponsored and financed by the Abruzzo Region, local authorities, associations, food&beverage companies and private sponsors. ReLive Festival represents the only active review in the Chieti area of itinerant and multidisciplinary nature, aimed at enhancing the cultural, historical, musical and landscape heritage of Abruzzo through concerts, tastings, guided tours and workshops. All initiatives related to the Year of Roots will take place under a project agreement with the neighboring municipalities of San Vito Chietino and Rocca San Giovanni, which are linked geographically and by similar migration dynamics.
