The Rocky Marciano Festival in the province of Chieti, amid stories of migration and Abruzzo cuisine
The Rocky Marciano Festival will take place from July 17 to 20 2024, and will feature guests from Brockton, United States, with whom to establish ongoing cultural exchanges and long-term collaborations. Guests will be taken on a tour of the architectural and scenic beauty of Abruzzo, in the heart of Italy, specifically of places of interest bordering Ripa Teatina, in the province of Chieti.
Below is the Festival outline program:
- July 17, 8:30 p.m. Piazza dell’Antico Convento Francescano, “I grandi campioni della boxe e la loro storia di emigrazione” (“The great boxing champions and their story of emigration”), with the participation of journalists who will discuss the strong link between sports and migrations through the figures of the many Abruzzese sportsmen who, just like our own Rocky Marciano and Rocky Mattioli, have made a name for themselves abroad. Rocky Mattioli will also be present at the event with his interesting story of emigration to Australia.
- July 18 8:30 p.m. City Center, “Festival della Letteratura Sportiva” (“Sports Literature Festival”): presentation of books about sports with the presence of nationally renowned journalists and champions.
- July 19 8:30 p.m. City Center, “Festival della Letteratura Sportiva” (“Sports Literature Festival”): presentation of books about sports, with the presence of nationally renowned journalists and champions and awarding of the “Storie di Sport” (“Stories of Sports”) literary contest.
- July 20, 8:30 p.m. Old Franciscan Convent Square, Awarding of the Marciano Prize to sportsmen and women in Italy and Abruzzo who have distinguished themselves over the past year.
During the evenings, a food and wine itinerary with specialties of Abruzzo cuisine will be set up along the streets of the center. Additionally, there will be performances by sports groups involving the attending audience.
Exhibitions will be set up throughout the evenings of the Festival. The events will be broadcast live on Social Media.
